SHAPE America – Society of Health and Physical Educators is the nation’s largest membership organization of health and physical education professionals. Since being founded in 1885, the organization has defined excellence in physical education, and our National Standards for K-12 Physical Education serve as the foundation for well-designed physical education programs across the country.
We provide programs and resources to support health and physical educators at every level, and work to make a positive impact on school health and physical education through our state and national advocacy efforts. SHAPE America has 50 state affiliates and is a founding partner of national initiatives such as the Presidential Youth Fitness Program, Let’s Move! Active Schools (now Active Schools) and the Jump Rope For Heart/Hoops For Heart programs.
A nation where all children are prepared to lead healthy, physically active lives.
To advance professional practice and promote research related to health and physical education, physical activity, dance and sport.
50 Million Strong by 2029 is SHAPE America’s commitment to put all children on the path to health and physical literacy through effective health and physical education programs.
We believe that through effective teaching, health and physical
educators can help students develop the ability and confidence to be
physically active and make healthy choices. As educators, our guidance
can also help foster their desire to maintain an active and healthy
lifestyle in the years to come. It’s a simple, but powerful belief that drives and unites us as an organization.
